Anyone else still fuming about Kevin Kisner?? 1.15 he was matched on Betfair Exchange. Beaten by the skankmeister Robert Streb. What an ugly golf game that guy has. Sickening!
The Joburg wasn’t much better. Veerman, Lombard and Suri all popped up on the first page of the leaderboard at stages, but ultimately never came close to a payout.
We are still in South Africa this week for the Alfred Dunhill Championship at the stunning Leopard Creek golf course. For me, it’s more of the same. The players I backed last week showed enough to warrant backing again. Plus I’ve added Van Tonder now he’s available at 40/1.
Van Tonder had won 4 of his previous 6 events on the Sunshine Tour. He finished 6th here last year and has two more Top 20s to his name at Leopard Creeek.
I’m willing to give Veerman one more try. After opening with a superb 64 last week he limped to a T35 place finish. He was superb in the Cyprus Showdown, shooting -22 for the 4 rounds, robbed only by the stupid format. In truth, he’s been improving for 18 months now and a title soon would not surprise me. Plus he finished 7th here last year.
Burmester did the opposite of Veerman. Started poorly but slowly worked his way into the event. T18 was another strong finish to follow on from his recent good play. His record here is mediocre at best but he does have a couple of Top 20s to his name.
I turned on the coverage Sunday to watch Lombard hit it 30 yards right into the shit on a Par 3. He made 6 thus killing any outside hope on an EW payout. But he played much better than he has been of late. He’s finished 7th and 3rd here the past 2 seasons and I’m sure he will be popular at 80/1.
Finally another punt on Suri. His odds haven’t changed despite showing signs of getting back to form. At his best he can beat this field and Top 25s in 2 of his last 3 events catch the eye. He was T5 after 36 holes last week. Worth another go at 110/1.
