4 First Round Leader betting tips for the Alfred Dunhill Championship. Starting with my favourite bet of the week, Johannes Veerman.
I think early tees times are likely to offer an advantage this week when the course might still be playing a little softer. Veerman is in the 1st group out at 6.20am.
He’s been making some really fast starts of late. He was T3 after Round 1 in the Joburg Open just last week. He was also T1 in the Cyprus Open. Earlier in the year, he shot a first-round 62 in the South African Open to lead on his own after 18 holes.
Veerman ranks 6th in Birdie Average this season on the European Tour. Veerman finished 7th here last year, so we know he likes the course.
Yep. Dean Burmester again. 2nd in Driving Distance and 2nd in Strokes Gained Putting. That’s a decent combination. T2 after Round 1 in Italy (62) and T1 in Ireland (65). Not a great record here but with an early tee time and odds of 50/1 he’s a must.
Same old same old. Gavin Green. 8th in Driving Distance, 13th in Birdie Average. It’s been a while since he placed for us at Wentworth but he was impressive in the Showdown. Amazing FRL stats last season and always a threat. This is his course debut though. Tees off at 7.20 am.
One small punt on a young South African. I say young he’s 25. Young compared to me. At 6 foot 9 it’s no wonder James Hart Du Preez sits 2nd in Driving Distance on the Sunshine Tour. He’s also 19th in Birdie Average at 4.52 per round.
Those stats were from the recently completed 19/20 season. Not in great form, no recent low 1st Round, but he did finish in the Top 25 last week. Worth a few quid at 300/1.
